The lifting question demystified
"How much weight can I safely lift?"
It seems like a straightforward question—one that should have a simple numerical answer. But the reality is much more nuanced.
Safe lifting isn't just about the weight of the object; it's about your body position, breathing technique, the stability of the object, how close you can keep it to your center, and numerous other factors.
A gallon of milk lifted with poor technique might stress your healing tissues more than a heavier weight lifted with optimal form.
Instead of focusing solely on weight limits, consider these questions:
Can you maintain proper breathing throughout the movement?
Are you able to keep your core gently engaged?
Can you avoid holding your breath or straining?
Does the movement feel controlled and stable?
