Rebuilding body trust after surgery

One of the most profound but rarely discussed aspects of surgical recovery is learning to trust your body again.

Before surgery, you may have experienced pain or symptoms that made your body feel unpredictable or unreliable. Then surgery itself, while necessary, is an experience where you surrender control.

Rebuilding trust after these experiences takes intentional practice.

Start by acknowledging the small ways your body supports you every day—even the simple act of breathing happens without conscious effort.

Notice what feels good, not just what hurts. Celebrate small victories in your healing process.

These seemingly tiny shifts in perspective can transform your relationship with your recovering body.

Has your trust in your body changed since surgery? For some women, surgery actually increases body trust as symptoms improve. For others, rebuilding that connection takes time.

Wherever you are in that journey is perfectly okay.
