The walking misconception

"Just start walking."

It's the most common exercise advice after surgery, and while walking is indeed wonderful, this simplified recommendation misses some important nuances.

Walking effectively for recovery isn't just about logging steps—it's about quality of movement.

Are you shuffling to protect your incision? Holding your breath on uneven terrain? Do you even have a safe, flat area to walk in? Tensing your shoulders and neck?

These compensations can create new problems while you're trying to solve the original one.

Do you walk as part of your recovery routine? If so, what have you noticed about how your walking pattern has changed since surgery?

Sometimes becoming aware of these subtle shifts is the first step toward improving them.
