Why your hips might be overworked post-surgery

If your hips feel stiff, tight, or achy since your surgery, it might not be “just getting older” or “normal wear and tear.”

Here’s what could be happening instead:

After a hysterectomy (especially one that involved abdominal incisions) your deep core muscles and pelvic stabilizers may not be firing optimally right away.

In response, your hip flexors and outer hips start doing more work to help stabilize and move your body.

This compensation can lead to overuse, tightness, and sometimes even hip or low back pain.

It doesn’t mean you’ve done anything wrong. It just means your body is adapting. With gentle retraining, the load can be shared more evenly again.

If you’ve been stretching your hips with little relief, the solution might not be more stretching.

Instead, it might be retraining your core, glutes, and pelvic support muscles so your hips can finally relax.
