When exercise feels scary

If the thought of exercising after surgery makes you nervous, you're not alone.

Fear of pain, causing damage, or "doing it wrong" keeps many women from returning to movement, even when they're physically ready.

This fear response is actually your brain trying to protect you—it's not weakness or anxiety. It's a normal reaction to a significant physical change.

But when protective fear lingers too long, it can become limiting, preventing you from rebuilding the strength and confidence your body needs.

The key is starting with movements that feel completely safe, then gradually expanding your comfort zone. Success builds on success, and each positive experience helps your nervous system learn that movement is safe again.

What movement or exercise do you miss most since your surgery? What would it feel like to reclaim that activity, on your own terms and timeline?

Sometimes simply visualizing success can be the first step toward achieving it.
